Gollum Benua
Alerted authorities to his owner's plight.
On Monday, January 11, Andrea Benua, 34, a good friend and advocate of Fort Woof, drowned in a frozen Fort Worth pond while attempting to rescue her beloved Italian Greyhound Artimus and Rottweiler puppy Mallory, after they fell through the ice. The dogs also drowned.
Andrea frequently donated time, money, and resources to animal welfare causes. The Fort Worth Dog Park Association will create a memorial tribute in memory of Andrea, Artimus & Mallory, to benefit Fort Woof and its patrons. Depending on the funds raised, our tribute may consist of planting trees, providing a bench or table, or making enhancements to the water station, for example.
We’re asking for your support and a tax deductible donation. Whatever you can afford to contribute will be greatly appreciated. Please help us remember Andrea and the spirit she embodied; the universal love we all share for our canine companions and the great joy they bring to our lives.

Fort Woof, Fort Worth’s first fenced off-leash dog park, is located at Gateway Park, north of Interstate 30 between Beach Street and Oakland Boulevard, east of downtown. Open from 5:00 am to 11:30 pm daily, the park provides an ideal place for dogs and their owners to have fun (within the limits defined in the park rules).
Fort Woof provides two large fenced areas for dogs to roam, one for dogs 40 pounds and more and a separate area for dogs weighing less than 40 pounds. Each area has picnic tables (no food of any type in the park, please) and park benches for humans, a watering station for both humans and dogs, and multiple poop-disposal locations, each with a supply of plastic bags (for humans to use when cleaning up after their dogs, as is required by the rules).
